Reads Nursery is a small family-run business now in its 6th generation. We take great pride in propagating the majority of our trees and plants ourselves. The methods we use are sometimes old-fashioned and laborious -  our fruit trees and Magnolias, for example, are grafted, a lengthy process. From rootstock to saleable tree can take 3 or 4 years,  more if it is trained.

We can offer you expert advice on the selection and any cultural needs of your chosen plants, to ensure they are a credit to your garden or greenhouse whether it is one tree or an orchard full. Our advice is free for all plants purchased for the lifetime of the tree, so if you need help pruning or on harvesting, drop us a line.

Our general nursery philosophy is to work in an environmentally friendly manner. We may use recycled boxes for your delivery for example. Printing is kept to a minimum with downloadable catalogues available free on the web site.

Predators are used to control unwelcome pests and bio-friendly fungus to combat pathogens as a preventative measure. Compost is peat free, a medium we have been using since the early 1990's. Ours is made from pine bark, coir and composted green waste.

Seaweed is used extensively to aid leaf structure and help combat pests, and we even use wormcast  compost as a root feed --all plants need food!

All our plants and fruit trees are available online through this website (or by phone 01986 895555) and local deliveries are also available via our own vehicles.

We are operating a 'click and collect' system for the local area, view and purchase your plants and trees online - these can then be collected from the nursery or delivered.

Planning restrictions do not allow the nursery to open as before. Apologies for any inconvenience.

The new Douglas Farm Nursery, at Bungay is not open to the public.
