One of the class of blood plums, nearly freestone with a deep red flesh throughout. Fruit rather flattened, dull purple-black sprinkled with russet dots - the more dots the richer and sweeter the fruit.

Often mistakenly called 'Satsuma' which has smaller, dense-fleshed fruit. Mariposa is the most succulent and delicate of the blood plums, marking the high point of summer's fruit season. Ripens late August.
