Old Greengage.
Medium sized yellow green fruit with occasional dots. Widely regarded as the richest flavoured of all, which it certainly is in a good season when ripe. Very heavy crops which are best thinned if possible to avoid biennial bearing. Named after Sir William Gage who introduced it prior to 1724 but the tree is thought to be much older and named for the wife of Francois 1 of France (1494-1547). Ripens in mid to late August.
Pollination group 3.
